What Did GSA Share About Indonesia Baby Product Licensing?
At first glance, Indonesia baby product licensing can look confusing. So, we broke it down into four main permits, one by one.
SNI certification. SNI is Indonesia’s national standard, and BSN manages it. Many baby products and children’s clothing must carry the SNI mark before they reach the market. To get it, products usually go through lab testing and a factory audit.
PKRT permit. The Ministry of Health issues PKRT permits for household health supplies. For example, some baby care items like diapers and wet wipes fall into this category.
PI (Import Approval). The Ministry of Trade controls certain imports through PI, or Persetujuan Impor. Depending on the product, importers may also need a trade quota. Clothing importers, in particular, need to check these rules carefully.
BPOM registration. BPOM oversees food, medicine and cosmetics. Therefore, baby food, baby lotion and baby shampoo usually need BPOM registration before sale.

The seminar took place in May 2024 in Yiwu, Zhejiang Province, China. Yiwu is home to one of the world’s largest small-commodity markets. Every day, buyers from around the world come here to source toys, clothing and household goods. For that reason, Yiwu was the perfect place to talk about exporting to Indonesia.
